Application of closed spray drying on silicon carbon anode materials

The demand for new energy vehicles and energy storage markets has promoted the rapid development of the battery industry. Continuous innovation in positive electrode, negative electrode, and electrolyte technologies has made coating modification of powder materials a widely recognized and effective strategy for improving battery performance.

The current negative electrode materials in the lithium battery market are mainly graphite negative electrodes. The theoretical specific capacity of silicon material is 4200mAh/g, which is more than 10 times that of graphite. But the volume expansion of up to 300% during charging and discharging is like a "zhadan" that can explode at any time, threatening battery life and safety. Fortunately, relying on modern advanced surface modification technology, the problems of unstable interface, low efficiency, and short cycle life of silicon-based negative electrodes have been overcome, and a new round of transformation in the negative electrode material market has arrived.

When processing the coating of silicon based materials, the products processed by vapor deposition show a very good side. However, compared with spray drying, especially in large-scale production, this technology requires relatively high equipment and process requirements. At present, spray drying is more widely used.

EHS is the primary consideration for the process of coating nano silicon with porous carbon on silicon carbon anode or the application scenarios involving spray drying of organic solvents. Spray drying equipment shall meet the following requirements:

  • The system uses inert gas nitrogen as the process gas to prevent product oxidation and prevent explosion;

  • The device is equipped with an internal oxygen content sensor

  • Instruments and sensors meet electrical and dust explosion-proof requirements

  • Install oxygen sensors outside the equipment (in the operation workshop)

  • Explosion relief valve or detonating panel

environmental safety

  • Organic solvents cannot be discharged into the environment, and spray drying equipment needs to be equipped with organic solvent condensation recovery module.
